Balenciaga Giant Covered Brogues City Bag
Description
Nicolas Ghesquière designed the City in 2001 as part of Balenciaga's Motorcycle line. Its slouchy leather, braided handles, tassels and studs made it the defining bag of the 2000s. This 2013 version is one of the more special ones. The Giant hardware is wrapped in leather, which is what "covered" means, and the leather is punched with brogue perforations like a men's dress shoe. It started out navy blue, and years of love have softened and faded it into the worn-in, slouchy City everyone actually wants. Check the interior tag: it reads "BALENCIAGA . PARIS". That little dot marks a specific era of Balenciaga, from the mid-2000s until the house later dropped it from its tags. It's the perfect already-broken-in City.
